Accountabilities / Responsibilities:

The maintenance mechanic will report directly to the Plant Operations Manager and assist with maintaining all Environment of Care books, Policies and Procedures, and any special projects or tasks assigned. They are also responsible for maintaining the physical plant and grounds to ensure a safe, efficient environment of care to serve the needs of the patients, visitors and employees. Also includes security and housekeeping duties as assigned.

A.

JOB KNOWLEDGE

1.

Completes maintenance and repair work, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and carpentry on all building systems.

Repairs, calibrates and maintains equipment and machinery according to established procedures.

Performs preventative maintenance tasks and documents results.

2.

Performs daily inspections on all building systems.

Submits completed daily inspection reports.

Monitors and verifies that all portable and stationary facility fire equipment is properly maintained, tested and meets all regulatory requirements.

Has an understanding of Joint Commission requirements.

3.

Completes construction projects by following written/verbal plans or blueprints.

Completes material inventory for each project.

Records time and expenses for each project in appropriate log.

4.

Demonstrates appropriate knowledge and competence of designated skills identified for position.

Proficient in Word and Excel.

Tracks data and creates reports.

Assists with maintaining the Environment of Care Policies and Procedures books.

5.

May have to work off hours and weekends, and possible holidays.

PRODUCTIVITY

1.

Responds to requests for maintenance and repair of building, equipment, utility systems, and grounds.

Completes daily maintenance inspection assignments before the end of the shift.

Completes all assigned maintenance requests according to Treasure Valley Hospital standards.

Prioritizes work and responds on an immediate basis for emergency repair situations.

Secures tools and equipment in proper area at end of each work shift.

Utilizes time effectively.

Follows established hospital/departmental safety requirements and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.

Demonstrates the competent usage of proper body mechanics in all activities.

Identifies potentially unsafe situations and notifies supervisor.

Completes all employee/patient incident documentation in a thorough and timely manner, as required by hospital policy.

Demonstrates complete understanding of established emergency procedures for department and hospital.

Practices infection control and standard precautions as instructed or trained.

Follows established hospital/departmental policies and procedures with regard to attendance and appearance.

Maintains attendance according to guidelines and policy established by facility.

Adheres to tardiness policy.

Provides notification for unscheduled absences or tardiness in accordance with established departmental procedures as noted by supervisor.

Requests scheduled time off according to procedure as noted by supervisor.

5.

Performs all other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Reports all incomplete maintenance requests and equipment deficiencies to supervisor.

Communicates status of maintenance requests to initiating departments.

Considers age-specific needs in communication.

Qualifications:

High school graduate or equivalent required; previous experience in preventative maintenance duties in the areas of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, construction and other various types of equipment; healthcare plant operations experience preferred. Proficient with computers, especially Word and Excel.

USD $31.00/Hr.
